Senior Design Project

During the final year of study, students work together in groups of four or five to complete a yearlong, faculty mentored senior design project, mimicking a real-world research setting. Students select the topic of their choice to conduct research and present their findings to a faculty panel, with highly ranked project teams going on to compete against senior design projects across the State of California.

Transferring Skills to the Research Lab

GPP-E students have extensive opportunities to become embedded in faculty research efforts. By working side-by-side with our experienced faculty members and their graduate teams, GPP-E students get a sneak peek into the life of a graduate student at an American university. Top performing students who show a dedicated effort may also have an opportunity to receive a recommendation letter from their faculty advisors for use in their graduate application packets.

  • Faculty mentored in-lab research experience
  • Empowers students in hands-on learning
  • Provides effective career preparation & promotes interests in graduate education
  • Develops critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, self-confidence, and intellectual independence
