About Assistant Provost for Strategic Initiatives and International Recruitment, Jun Wang

Jun Wang was appointed Assistant Provost, Strategic Initiatives and International Recruitment on July 1, 2019. In this role, he works closely with the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor to provide leadership and thoughtful direction for all of UCR’s short- and long-range strategic activities that raise the university’s profile and ranking in the local, national, and international marketplace. Jun oversees international student recruitment strategies for the university, and develops strategies for engagement with peer educational institutions in the U.S. and abroad to establish partnerships and recruitment pipelines. He is also responsible for the planning and implementation of programs and projects that strategically engage UCR’s international alumni, and other campus-wide international initiatives and related activities.

Jun joined UCR in 2005 as assistant researcher for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development project. In 2007, he became the professional development officer in the Bourns College of Engineering, and remained in the college as the director of student development and international initiatives from 2011 until he became the assistant dean of strategic and international initiatives in 2017. From 2008 to 2017, Jun also served as the manager of two U.S. Department of Education TITLE V STEM Pathway programs for Hispanic Servicing Institutions, and the director of the MESA Engineering Program at UCR.

Jun is currently serving as a board member of the pacific southwest section of the American Society of Engineering Education, an advisory council member of the Leonard Transportation Center, and a senior member of the Association of International Educators. Jun earned his M.B.A. from the University of California, Riverside, and his B.S. in Computer Science from Florida Institute of Technology.
